Vik Vase
A piece inspired by my travels to Iceland. Visiting the black sand beach located near the village Vík í Mýrdal in southern Iceland; I came across the basalt sea stacks Reynisdrangar. These natural geometric cliffs companied by the rich black volcanic sand, a moody sky, and columns of volcanic rock shooting out of a powerful ocean left me with a visual that felt out of this world. An experience that is inscribed in my memory. My design of this vase gives a similar “out of this world” visual with handcrafted-ceramic stacked in chainmail and offers the unique characteristic of movement. A vessel that can make an ancient craft feel both refreshing and lost in time.
Hand thrown vase with a rich black color. This piece has gone through the creative process of being hand thrown, hand-sculpted, trimmed, and fired in a kiln twice. The chains are crafted by hand and sealed for added protection. Due to the nature of handmade ceramics, each piece is unique and there may be small imperfections.
